Dr. Apte’s research interests are in numerical simulations and modeling of multiphase turbulent flows. The Apte Research Group is currently working on development of advanced numerical algorithms and models for simulations of multiphysics turbulent flows using predictive numerical techniques such as direct and large-eddy simulations. Applications of current interest include bubble-laden cavitating flows, clean coal technology and oxy-coal reactors, solar fuels and biofuel reforming, and particle-laden turbulent flows such as those occur in fluidized beds, sprays, and two-phase microchannel heat sinks.
Dr. Apte’s current research is supported by the Office of Naval Research, Department of Energy, US Army, and the Oregon BEST solar initiative.
