ONAMI's education affiliates offer a wide range of programs for K-12 students designed to increase their interest in science, mathematics, engineering and technology.

Adventures in Learning
Oregon State University

Adventures in Learning combines stimulating academic and social opportunities in a fun-filled 10-day experience that exposes participants to exciting and sophisticated areas of interest not usually found during the regular school year. The program is designed for gifted, talented and creative learners who are interested in fast-paced, challenging opportunities.

Expeditions
Oregon State University

The Expeditions program provides gifted, talented and creative youth who have completed grades 3 or 4 a two-week, half-day educational experience with courses taught by experts in a variety of topics. Students are introduced to engaging, intriguing subjects in an enjoyable and nurturing environment.

GK-12 Science Education Outreach Program
University of Oregon

With funding from the National Science Foundation, the University of Oregon's GK12 Science Outreach Program provides 11 graduate students from chemistry and physics as resources for teaching physical hands-on science and mathematics in seven elementary schools in Lane County. The fellows spend eight to 10 hours each week assisting with a variety of in-school activities.

Mathematics, Engineering & Science Education (MESA)
Portland State University

Oregon MESA is a pre-college academic program co-sponsored by PSU that engages 6th-12th grade students in hands-on, inquiry-based math, engineering, science and technology projects during weekly chapter meetings at school sites. MESA students develop their math, science and leadership skills by building engineering projects, competing in science fairs, preparing for college, exploring careers in engineering and technology and visiting museums and corporate sites. The MESA Partnership Model connects students, teachers, schools and families with universities, community colleges, industry and government.

NSF GK-12 Rural Science Education Programs
Oregon State University

The Rural Science Education Program is a partnership between Oregon State University and local rural K-12 schools. The program places OSU students in rural schools to enrich the science curriculum with hands-on science activities. The curriculum includes simple and innovative experiments that integrate advances in biotechnology and ecology to stimulate critical thinking about the impacts of agriculture on the environment and the implications of advanced scientific research on human lives.

OSU K-12 Online is a flexible learning program that includes almost 30 high school classes. Curricula include subject areas such as English, math, science, social science, arts, technology and career learning.

Saturday Academy
Portland State University

Saturday Academy is a nonprofit community-based program offering enriched educational opportunities, especially in science, math, and technology. The program offers in-depth, motivating, real-world classes and workshops that supplement regular school curriculum. Saturday Academy is home to many quality programs, which include a summer engineering camp for middle school students and apprenticeships in science and engineering that provide high school students the opportunity to spend their summers working side-by-side with some of Oregon's top researchers. Classes are taught by experts in the community and held at the host business, college or agency.

Science Connections
Oregon State University

The Science Connections program is a partnership between the OSU College of Science and Portland Public Schools. Its goal is to enhance science education in the public schools by forging connections between working scientists (faculty, researchers, and students at OSU) and PPS teachers and students through activities such as classroom visits, lectures, email connections, and workshops.

SKIES- Spirited Kids In Engineering and Science

SKIES provides science and engineering activities for grades K-5, where kids will explore chemistry, physics, math, life sciences, ecology and engineering in a fun, interactive and learning environment. The program is offered through by Chemical Engineering, Saturday Academy, and KidSpirit and is funded through a grant from the Hewlett Foundation to the OSU College of Engineering.

SMILE (Science and Math Investigation Learning Experiences Program)

SMILE is a precollege program for historically underrepresented and other educationally disadvantaged students in Oregon. This program focuses on science and math enrichment. It presents science and engineering challenges, teacher training, outdoor science camp and elementary science clubs to students throughout Oregon.

Summer Experience in Science and Engineering for Youth (SESEY)
Oregon State University

SESEY is targeted primarily at high school girls and ethnic minorities traditionally underrepresented in science and engineering, and to science, math or physics teachers interested in developing curricular materials to promote engineering activities in their classrooms. Students come to the OSU campus for a one-week residential summer camp and are paired with a faculty mentor in engineering for a mini-research project in areas such as microscale technologies, plastics recycling, drug formulation and delivery, bioprocessing, microelectronics, and environmental engineering. Students are exposed to science and engineering as viable and interesting career paths. The main goal for science teachers during the week is to develop engineering modules that they create with a faculty mentor and take back to their high schools to present in science classes.
