Alfred L. Nuttall is director of the Oregon Hearing Research Center. He holds an appointment as professor in the Department of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery and is vice chairman for research in the department. He is also an emeritus professor of Otolaryngology at the University of Michigan. After receiving his B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Lowell Technological Institute (now the University of Massachusetts at Lowell) he took his graduate training at the University of Michigan, receiving an M.S. in bioengineering and an M.S. in electrical engineering followed by a Ph.D. in bioengineering in 1972. Following postdoctoral work at the Kresge Hearing Research Institute, he was appointed assistant professor in the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Michigan in 1976, where he rose to the rank of professor. His appointment at Oregon Health Sciences University began in 1996.
